Question

What Is The Outlook For Natural Gas Prices?

Are natural gas prices going stay at historical lows?

Answer

Natural gas prices today range between $2.75-$3.00/MMBtu and will increase to $5.75/MMBtu by 2050 (2017 dollars), according to the Energy Information Administration's Annual Energy Outlook.

Drivers impacting prices include added gas demand from retired coal-fired power plants switching to natural gas-fired power plants and increasing pipeline and liquified natural gas exports.  These higher prices will enable natural gas producers to invest in natural gas resources and reserves to meet this growing demand.
